Endodontics

Endodontics is the dental specialty that deals with the tissues surrounding the root of a tooth and the tooth pulp. Tooth pulp is located at the center of a tooth containing nerves that can cause severe pain when exposed through decay or trauma. Endodontists are dentists specializing in this area of dentistry. An additional 2 – 3 years study is required before an endodontist can be certified.

Endodontists are primarily noted for a micro procedure called Root Canal Therapy. Using specialized equipment and magnification Endodontists are able to clean out the diseased or exposed pulp areas of the tooth, including the root canals and filling them with special fillings that heal and strengthen the roots and center pulp areas of the tooth.

In the fairly recent past, endodontic treatment (root canal therapy) would take several treatments over a few weeks. Today, thanks to new tools, materials, and advanced training, these root canal procedures are, with few exceptions, accomplished painlessly in a single visit.

At Reardon Dental, our Endodontist is Dr. Craig Appelstein. Dr. Applestein received his certification in endodontics in 2008 and is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists. He has published several articles in endodontic journals. (See Dr. Appelstein’s full bio)

Love this dentist! Everyone is so nice and professional! I’ve been going here since for 24 years! They’ve always taken good care of me!

I had pain in a tooth and called Wednesday morning and they told me to come right in. Dr. Reardon was very kind and thorough and explained my options. He ended up removing out an old filling and replacing it. His calm manner helped me through the drilling procedure and Sherry was great at replacing the filling. I appreciated that Dr Reardon fit me in to resolve the tooth pain. Excellent experience, even with the drilling part. Thank you! Thanks

Got in quickly, Stephanie is kind and gentle. No pain. Dr. O’Brian very nice and also friendly. Overrall the office is clean and friendly and since I have to go to the dentist, I actually don’t mind this group. Note: I avoided going to the dentist for years because I was so afraid- now not so much. 👍
